a. Paving stones should be installed hand tight and level on the undisturbed sand leveling bed.
b. Concrete or masonry sand should be spread over the installed paving stones so that it may be vibrated into the joints.

d. Excess sand should be swept into the joints or disposed of from surface area.
e. The completed paving stone installation should be washed down and cleaned to provide a clean finished workmanlike installation.
Starting Patterns
The positioning of the first few pavers demands extra care. Each paver has to be placed very carefully so not to disturb its neighbors, and it is not until three or four rows have been laid that a normal rapid laying rate can be achieved.
The order of laying must ensure that the pavers can be placed easily and in such a way that it is never necessary to force a paver between those already laid. With the herringbone pattern it is important that an 'open' laying procedure be followed so that more that one layer can be employed on the laying face.
